As the name suggests, mini cruisers are the smallest member of the skateboard-family and are primarily designed for cruising and transport. They are a fun and smart way to commute, as you can easily carry them with you on the bus or on the train, or even take the smallest mini cruisers with you to the airport for your next trip.
With a mini cruiser you are guaranteed a fun and responsive board with a very comfortable ride, thanks to the big and soft wheels and excellent bearings. This small setup will surely not slow you down!
Mini cruiser boards generally come in that classic retro skateboard-shape with a pointy nose and a kicktail. You can get inspired by so many different board sizes, shapes and materials, that you will likely find a board matching your style. Some boards are not smaller than regular skateboards - however, their design and components make them all ideal for cruising.
You can find three main categories of boards sorted by size and materials:
- The smaller penny boards in size 22, light and compact cruiser boards made of hard plastic.
- The bigger penny boards in size 27, also light and made of hard plastic.
- The wooden mini cruisers, generally a bit bigger than pennyboards.
Most mini cruisers are just like more compact longboards. The small size, the reduced weight and the highly shock-absorbing wheels make these boards super practical and enable excellent cruising and carving, as well as a great surf-feeling.
Mini cruisers are suitable for riders of all ages and levels. They are ideal for small skaters or kids, or for average sized riders who can deal with less board-space. These boards are beginner-friendly and their cool look definitely is a great motivation factor to go out and skate! However, if you or your children are about to learn basic skateboarding techniques, we recommend that you also get a board that allows for wider foot distance and higher stability than the smallest cruisers. It could be a slightly larger cruiser board or a regular skateboard.
You can also get a mini cruiser to have an extra, super-fun portable board with a smooth ride.
